AVCA’s maiden virtual conference; the AVCA 2021 Conference, opened on Tuesday, April 20th, 2021, with amazing panel discussions and knowledge-sharing between leading industry practitioners. The conference theme “Resilience, Resurgence & Results” summarizes the position of the African private equity industry, as AVCA celebrates 20 years of collaboration, growth, and support with key stakeholders in the industry.
Okechukwu (Okey) Enelamah, Chairman, ACA, was a speaker at the first Fireside Chat of the conference, themed: African Private Equity Industry Pioneers. This session sponsored by ACA convened some of the pioneers that contributed to laying the foundation of the African Private Equity Industry. The insightful discussions explored their motivations and learnings with investing in African private equity and how the industry has evolved over the past 30+ years.
One of the highlights from the discussion which emphasized the role of private capital as a force for good was captured by Okey, “Private equity (PE) in Africa is smarter. The fundamentals of Africa remain, and PE has matured. People are looking to make some money, but they really care and are passionate about creating impact.”
